It’s snowing outside!
It’s snowing outside!
Can I tell you how much better I am already feeling? SO MUCH BETTER! And how did this happen? Shopping. I know, what a girl.
First, I went and paid my apartment the $49.72 I owed them. They apologized for sending such a harsh letter out and said that was the only way they could get some people to respond. I can understand that, but really, a nice note first would have been a lot more customer friendly.
I really only went shopping in search of one thing: Bissell Little Green Machine Solution. You see, my dad gave me a Bissell handheld deep cleaning vacuum for Christmas to clean up little Gracie messes. It was supposed to come with a bottle of this magical solution, but did not. That’s ok! I’ll just run to Target and get some. Easier said than done. I end up browsing the DVDs (I also got a fancy new DVD player from my parents - woo hoo!), and found The All Day Yoga Workout for $16.99. I figured that one of the ways I can get out my rut is to do some exercise, and I can use my new DVD player. Unfortunately, I didn’t locate any of the magical vacuum solution - they were all out.
I figured I would stop next door at MacFrugal’s just to see if they had any. No luck, but I did pick up a few things for myself and a bone for Gracie.
Next, I stopped in at the Sprint PCS Store. They had a bunch of banners flying out front advertising a Year End Phone Clearance plus a 1500 minute plan for $34.99. I’m paying $29.99 for 120 minutes right now, so I wanted to inquire about changing plans. Also, my phone’s battery doesn’t really hold a charge anymore and the car charger doesn’t hold the phone, so I thought I would see what they had on clearance. I ended up purchasing a Sprint PCS NP1000 for $60. I should be able to get the Wireless Web service on this phone and it has software to sync up the info in the phone with info on your computer. I’ll probably hold off on purchasing any PDA while I play with this new toy.
Next, I figured I’d hit Albertson’s and pick up some groceries. I cruised around the store, picking up a few things and looking for the magic vacuum solution (to no avail). Then I decided I would just rent one of those big carpet shampooers and do my whole apartment. So I rent one of those, and notice the video store inside Albertson’s has DVDs. I had originally planned to hit Blockbuster later this evening to rent some DVDs for some exciting Saturday night entertainment, but Albertson’s was renting new DVDs for $0.99! Blockbuster is $3.49. I inquire as to what a person has to do in order to rent one - nothing! Just show your ID. So I picked up 28 Days and Fight Club.
So, aside from the fact that I never found the magical vacuum solution, I had a fun day shopping. I picked up a new DVD and cell phone, bought groceries, rented a carpet shampooer so I can have clean carpets for 2001, and rented 2 DVDs for $2. Yay!
Mark down December 29 as one of the worst days of the year.
I had a terrible day yesterday. I’ve been having a crappy month of December as a whole, but I think it reached its peak yesterday.
My boss informed me that he is considering hiring someone to come take over the department and handle the managerial aspects of it. I know that this would be a really good idea for the company. It would be really good for me. I don’t know what I am doing there. I am not getting the direction I need from him, and I don’t know where to take the department. If the department is going to be successful, they need a person that has the experience of working for a dot com and management expertise that comes from having done this before. I am not this person. I would like to be that person, but right now, I am not. But still hearing my boss say that kind of hurt.
I also asked my boss if any sort of raise was going to come with the review that I had a month ago. The subject had never been brought up. I’ve been at my company 7 and a half months now. I think I’ve done some pretty good work. He said the department isn’t where they want it and it just hasn’t been making the money to hand out a raise. That one really hurt. It is true that we haven’t been making any money, but it isn’t my job to get us clients and the sales department certainly hasn’t been sending anyone our way. And I am certainly not making huge bucks here, rather far below the going rate for someone with such a broad range of skills.
I feel like a jack of all trades and a master of none and this doesn’t make me happy.
After that, I came home to find a note on my door. I apparently owe my apartment $49.72. They could have left a nice note indicating this. No. Since I was already having a crappy day, I get a Three-Day Notice to Pay Rent or Quit. WTF? I didn’t know I owed this money. Now I’m looking at the note and it is dated Wednesday. They delivered the thing Friday. Does that mean three days from Wednesday? Or the date it actually was delivered? Argh. I’d best get my butt down to the office. Sure glad I’m in town this weekend.
I am in a rut. Spiritually. Emotionally. Romantically. At work. At home. One big fat rut that I can’t get out of.
So, last night, after a good cry, I have decided that it’s time to get my life in gear. If I am in a rut, I need to change something to get out. It’s the last weekend of the year, so what better time to reevaluate oneself and establish new goals and priorities?
There is going to be a new Leia in 2001. Watch out.
Sites that make you change your password to fit their rules really tick me off. I’ve got one password that I use everywhere. Now, granted this isn’t the most secure way of doing things, but I can remember this word. The next time I go back to this site, chances are I probably won’t remember that I had to put in special characters to fit their rules.
James spotted the Set Puzzle Challenge and solved the puzzle in 32 seconds. Of course, he came up with some fancy code to solve it. But he insists that “this isn’t against the rules.” Sure…
It seems that BlogVoices is down right now. The discussion won’t work til their site comes back up.
Fixed my permanent links so that they actually go to the post they should. I had forgotten to put in the <a name=”> tags.
