Everything is out of the old apartment and it is all clean. I am in pain. I am hot. I am sweaty. I stink. I still have hours of work ahead of me putting all my crap away.
Someone please point this post out to me the next time I discuss moving. There are only two reasons I am allowed to move again: moving out of Dallas or getting married. No exceptions.
IN DALLAS NORTHBOUND 75 CENTRAL AT CARUTH HAVEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT IS BLOCKING THE LEFT LANE. AN OVER TURNED TRAILER IS FACING THE WRONG WAY. YOUR BACK UP IS 5 MILE. NORTHBOUND ACCESS LANES ARE CLOSED.
I was literally five seconds in front of this accident. I saw it in my rearview mirror. Pardon me while I go freak out…
Busy day today, here is what is on tap: Digital Cable and Cable Modem installation, get money order from bank to pay rent (I’m out of checks), go clean old apartment, pack the last remaining items ther einto my car, do some last minute laundry there before the new washer/dryer owner shows up, shampoo carpets, and turn in the keys by midnight. Fun!
I would tell you the results of my ColorQuiz, but I don’t like what it said about me. Link via nickd.
Since I moved in, I noticed a horrible noise over the din of the air conditioning unit. Something under the floor was making a squealing/motor-needs-oil sort of noise. I was about to either take a sledgehammer to the floor or call the landlord to make them listen to it. Then I started investigating to pinpoint the origin of the sound. It wasn’t from the floor at all. It was from one of the many boxes that decorate my place. It seems one of my Furbys didn’t enjoy the trip over and was stuck in a permanent snore. It has since been reset and silent tranquilty restored.
All my bags are packed and I’m ready to go…
I’m going batty. I’ve had four hours of sleep. I needed to get up in time to disassemble my bed, shower, and take down the shower curtain before the movers come. The question is: when will they come? I was told last week between 8:30-10:30 (they keep cable company hours, it seems). Yesterday I was told 8-9. So, I am ready. Well, mostly.
There is still the odd piece here and there. I guess I could go tidy up loose ends while waiting. No television, no radio… the silence is deafening.
Well, except for the sound of rain. RAIN! On most days, hooray for rain, especially in Dallas in the summer. But today? Rain = stuff wet = slower work = more money spent on the movers who charge by the hour.
I own so much crap. Boxes and boxes of it. I accumulate junk like it is a hobby. I also relocate my junk every 12-13 months it seems.
For those of you counting, this is move #3 in Dallas in 2.17 years. This time, though, I’m moving out of the burbs and into the city. Go me.
Alright, alright. I’ll go pack more.
Got the keys to the new (to me) apartment this morning. The phone man just left, after connecting the line, and the first thing I do is log on to check email and blog. What a dork.
This apartment has been empty for over a month, and the bugs have taken over. There are insect carcasses in every nook and cranny. I should have brought my vacuum with me today to attack the graveyard.
I’m not certain the last resident really cleaned the place when they left (not that I’m going to try very hard at the old place). I spent about an hour attacking the mildew, soap scum, and several years’ accumulation of grime with CLR.
Does anyone know how to clean spots of an old mirror? The bathroom mirror is spotty and generally hazy. Also, I’ve got hardwood floors now (YAY!) — any cleaning/maintenance tips for those?
Back to cleaning and unpacking while I wait for the gas man…
