We have been reviewed at Blog You! Somehow, the site received 5 out of 4 Southerlands, which sounds great, but is really 5 out of 8. I think they use some sort of new math over there. My review of the review:
High points:
Ed says I am beloved.
Low points:
Ed’s haikus about storage containers.
Tom calls me a scruffy-looking woman.
Ritchie has written a super-dash-handy bookmarklet that lets you check dictionary.com for a definition by highlighting a word and clicking the bookmarklet. Check it out.
I spent several hours tonight searching for a plug-in for WinAmp that would allow me to list the current track playing in addition to the past several tracks that I listened to. I would find one tool that would export the list, but it utilized a separate server. Another tool put the list up on my server, but the format was ugly and wouldn’t serve the purpose I wanted.
Finally, I found the perfect option: Do Something, a free WinAmp plug-in that does everything I want and more. You can set up a template in DoSomething, which outputs your playlist in XML. My template looks like:
%%CURRENTSONG%%
%%SONG1%%
%%SONG2%%
…and so on, which outputs this.
Additionally, it handles FTPing the file internally, while others utilized this crazy command line modification that I finally got my head around after multiple tries.
I think one of the best features is the ability to set parameters on what songs are playing. I have it set to not play more than one song by an artist more than once every 15 minutes. This is helping reduce the number of Ace of Base songs in the rotation. I’ve got 500 tracks in there, maybe 10 of which are Ace of Base, but they were appearing every other song.
Quit laughing at Ace of Base, you know you liked them. “It’s a beautiful life…Oh oh! way-oh oh.”
Have you been to Just a Tip.com? I love this site. It makes me giggle. The premise is you can send an anonymous email to your friends/co-workers/lovers/enemies telling them about their annoying problems or endearing traits.
Yesterday, an anonymous person sent me a tip that I am funny “because you tell great stories and are obnoxious to persons of authority”. I giggled for ten minutes. Really. Ask Denise, she was across the table from me the whole time. OK, I think it was more like fifteen. I would stop tittering and calm down only to click on the link and start all over again.
Thank you, anonymous complimenter, for the good giggle. You brightened my day.
Apparently, the new meme in the blogger world is babies. While I am all about hopping on a meme bandwagon, do not expect me to follow suit on this one.
Just because I love you, I made the archives work.
New AOL 6.0: “All I feel for AOL is righteous indignation.” [.mov file, explicit language] Link via jason.
The satellite glitch that resulted in a strange frame appearing on HBO‘s Six Feet Under is not strictly limited to that network. While watching Supernova on Showtime earlier tonight, I caught at least two seconds of what looked like Chris Isaak holding a rifle. What kind of disturbing subliminal message are they trying to show here?!
What’s My Pirate Name? Arr matey, call me Calico Bess Bonney. “Often indecisive, you can’t even choose a favorite color. You’re apt to follow wherever the wind blows you, just like Calico Jack Rackham, your namesake. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate’s life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!” Link via swallowing tacks.
