Friday night found me in

September 22nd, 2001

Friday night found me in the company of two extraordinary men, Matt and Dave. How does a girl get so lucky? It’s a gift.

We dined on Vietnamese cuisine at the Green Papaya. I was wary at first, I am not an adventurous eater by any means. I picked out a chicken dish with garlic sauce and vegetables. Tasty. We discussed the DFW Bloggers and some ideas for that site, which, by the way, launched version 2.0 yesterday (and really kicks ass).

We departed Dallas for the western side of the Metroplex to catch a show at the Ridglea Theatre. After driving around Fort Worth looking for the theatre (never asking for directions, thankyouverymuch), Dave finally located the venue. We caught the end of the first opening band’s show. I do not have much exposure to post-modern rock. I couldn’t tell you if those guys were good or not. I have no comparison.

I really enjoyed the second opening band, !!! (who are darn hard to find an URL for, being as they are all punctuation). Their lead singer wasn’t great, but the band itself had a strong stage presence and seemed to really enjoy what they were doing. I would describe their music as disco funk, and very fun.

Finally the band we had showed up for came on stage. I was already beat as Modest Mouse took the stage. The Ridglea was hot and so smoky my eyes were burning, not to mention I only had five hours of sleep each of the two nights prior. I had never heard of Modest Mouse until Thursday night, and they are not the typical sort of music I would listen to. I did enjoy their show though. I’ll probably be adding some of their songs to my playlist.

Conversation floated between music (don’t judge me by my playlist), tattoos, passions, passivity, relationships, and wish lists (I am not my wishlist!). I really like these guys. They are very smart and a lot of fun to hang out with. Though, I have been informed that I need to see a a movie or two in order to be cool enough for them.

I’m still debating what to do tonight. There is a Shag show opening tonight. Also, the Plano Balloon Festival is going on. There is a glow at 8pm and fireworks at 9pm. That could be fun. I need people to go with, though. Are you interested?

The radio just announced Richard Marx is playing tonight at the festival. Richard Marx! Bwahaha. Just hearing his songs takes me back to the sixth grade science camp at the community college. We stayed in the athlete dorms and at night, they would turn on the radio and have a dance. Not that I ever got to dance with anybody, but I remember watching the others dance.

I never said you weren’t cool because you hadn’t seen the Big Lewbowski. I said you couldn’t be in our cult (the Little Lewbowski Urban Achievers), until you’d seen it. It didn’t have anything to do with cool.

My bad, Dave. I had forgotten the name of the LLUA(tm), and just assumed one must be cool to be in it.
    Mark, YAY!

I saw the Toadies once at the Ridglea Theater back in high school. It was an “interesting” experience, to say the least.

as a representative of the little lebowski urban achievers, i am taking the liberty on behalf of my esteemed lula colleagues to impart the following information:
admittance into lula is a long and arduous task, not one to be taken lightly. dave, matt, josh or myself would be glad to sit down with those interested parties at the happy hour this wednesday night.

I think saying that probably just did it, Erica.

Official site. Most typographers would pronounce the name of this band “Bang Bang Bang”.
