I’ve been working pretty furiously

November 30th, 2001 Comments off

I’ve been working pretty furiously on some site modifications this week. First, I switched Katie’s site from the Blogger template she had been using to a more thematic look. I also finally got my behind in gear and put something up at my church’s site, which has long lay empty. This site is just a temporary design, as we’re working on putting together a web team. The previous look was terribly outdated, as staff who had updated it came and left. Not to mention that fine 1995 look it had going on.

If you are like me

November 29th, 2001 Comments off

If you are like me and downloaded that handy app to reconfigure your cable modem settings so that you wouldn’t be without service when @Home goes dark, you may be just as annoyed as I was that they completely hijacked Outlook Express and Internet Explorer. If you want that crud removed, there are two steps (disclaimer: if your computer implodes because you mess up your registry, it’s not my fault):

1. Close all browser windows. Go to Start > Run > type or paste “rundll32 iedkcs32.dll,Clear” without the quotes. This should clear most of the branding from the programs.

2. If you want to go the extra mile and remove “Outlook Express provided by your friendly neighborhood cable internet provider featuring MSN”, you will have to edit your registry. You should probably save yourself a backup copy before doing this. Now, follow these instructions, and you should be golden.

Last night, Jeremy, Erica, Matt, and I saw Mulholland Drive. I hated it. Absolutely hated it. About an hour in (it’s 2.5 hours long), I began thinking that I would never get those hours of my life back. I just kept hoping that somehow it would all be brought together at the end. Not so.

Some movies, like Me, Myself, and Irene or Bring It On, I have low expectations for from the get-go. And they turn out to be below average, not worth mentioning or emoting over, whatever movies.

Mulholland Drive, I hated. Despised for its confusing plot, its total WTF-ness, its all around weirdness. I guess it was good in that it evoked such emotion.

Upon looking at some sites, though, I think I have maybe figured out just what the plot was. Maybe. Well, it works in my large head. Sort of.

My faith in MetaFilter is restored. The best Christmas songs thread is my kind of thread. I’m going to have to download buy a lot of these tunes.

I’m a weather geek. In middle school, I watched the Weather Channel for entertainment. My favorite report was the tropical watch. As I have written before, hurricanes are my favorite weather phenomena, as I grew up in Florida. Out here, in the land of heat, there aren’t any hurricanes to deal with, so I haven’t been keeping up with the tropical season.

Tonight, however, we are getting weather. An arctic front is coming through and freezing rain and snow are forecast for tonight and tomorrow. Y

My cable modem has been down since Saturday morning. The past few days have been quite painful. Seriously, what did people do at home before the Internet?

Amélie is one of the best movies I have seen this year, if not the best. You must see this enchanting film. I had a goofy grin on my face throughout the entire movie and felt good about the world after the credits rolled. Go now!

Why are you still sitting there? Get thee to a theatre right now!

Today marks two months of Matt and me. In celebration, we have given the nation the day off, scheduled football games and parades, and are recommending a feast of turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. For dessert, you are obligated to have some pie, preferably pumpkin, in our honor.

Please also reflect on those things that you are thankful for. Keep in mind things like: life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, those who worked so hard to found our nation, and alargehead.com.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I ran out of gas

November 21st, 2001 2 comments

I ran out of gas today for the first time ever. I kind of knew it was coming. I was stupid to not fill up, but I didn’t have any money on me (I had given my last quarter to a homeless man). I hoped I had enough to make it home. In the stop-and-go turkey eve traffic, however, my car just stalled out. I was able to rather forcibly steer it into the parking lot at a Men’s Wearhouse, where Matt swooped in like a knight in shining armor on a noble steed and rescued me.
