An injured bird was sitting

April 29th, 2002

An injured bird was sitting on the step just outside Matt’s door tonight. I couldn’t bear the thought of letting it just die there, so I (with the help of astute researcher Josh) tried to find some service in Dallas that would rehabilitate the wild bird.

After much searching, and calling around, we found the Dallas Audubon Society runs a rehabilitation hotline (972-480-5370). The message at the number stated that you should put the bird in a box in a quiet, dark place and then you could take it to an animal clinic between the hours of 7am-4pm.

Matt and I scooped the frightened bird into a box and stuck it on his porch. Tomorrow morning, I’m going to take it down to the clinic. I hope they are able to fix whatever ails it (possibly a broken wing). If not, I feel secure that I have done the best I could do for it and that, by posting this here, maybe it will make it easier for someone to find out this information more simply so that another bird can be saved.
