Ever moved three people in

July 25th, 2002

Ever moved three people in one day? When it is 100 degrees out? Let me tell you, it isn’t a smart thing to do. But Matt and I did it yesterday.

At about 11am, we went to the storage unit and sorted through and loaded all my stuff onto a U-haul truck. While taking a break to get some Gatorade, somehow the idea came up that we had the truck all day and there was no sense renting another Saturday when we could just move everything that day. We finished at the storage unit about 2:30, and hot, sweaty, and exhausted, we grabbed some lunch from Subway.

We called Julie at work and asked her how much she had packed. The answer: about a third. We told her about the plan and headed back to Matt’s place.

We had intended to spend the remaining hot afternoon hours inside packing up Matt’s stuff, but that turned into laying around and watching Days of Our Lives. At about 5:00, we got off our butts and started packing up stuff. We put a few more boxes into the U-haul and drove down to the new place.

Dave met us there, bearing more Gatorade and turkey sandwiches (my hero!). With his help, we were unloaded in an hour.

Back at Matt’s, we got some Olive Garden take-out and packed more. At about 9:00, Julie called. She was packed and going to grab some food with Jason. An hour later, I was at her place with the truck loading it up. Another hour after that, we were all back at Matt’s loading up his big pieces. At midnight, we were on our way to the house once again. We finished unloading at about 2am and tiredly made our way home.

Matt and I jumped in the pool and floated for a bit. That was the best feeling after a hard day of hot work. By 3am, I was asleep.

Since all the furniture is at the new place, I had to sleep on the floor. This meant pain this morning. My knees ache when bent, I think I have a pinched nerve in my shoulder, I can hardly move my left ankle and I have blisters the size of Rhode Island. But! The hard part is done! And, in a few days, my bed and I will be one again.

Moving your belongings out of storage on the first clear day it reaches 100 is like moving out of a volcano.

Julie has posted a picture of our new house. Well, at least a picture of the front first floor. From far away. But she’s clear to point out which windows are mine. Note to self: set up alarm service.

While watching Omen 3: The Final Conflict last night, I covered Gracie’s eyes during the priest-getting-mauled-by-a-pack-of-hunting-dogs scene. As her guardian, it is my responsibility to protect her from the violence that is constantly being shown by the media. That and I don’t want her to get any ideas.

Kudos to Rebecca on a wonderful interview. DFWblogs got several mentions, albeit once confused as a match-making service. Though that is an interesting idea: a blogger match-making service. Who wouldn’t want a little insight into the person they are hooked up with before, or even during, a relationship?

Rebecca’s interview brought three new sites to the list so far: Monk’s blog, viperstyx, and w6 daily. Awesome.

Found in the bunny madness occuring at MetaFilter today: Breeder, where you must breed bunnies while avoiding the electric fence and some sort of meteor attack. I have yet to succeed at this.

One of the ladies where I am working brought her three-year-old daughter in to the office today. She took one look at me and ran. I think it is my hair.

Interesting: Coke Watch, “a website designed to keep an eye on The Coca-Cola Company, one of the world’s most well-known corporations. You may be shocked to learn about the conditions under which Coca-Cola products are produced and distributed.” Link via fimoculous, via whedonesque.
