My Facts Of Life

July 3rd, 2003

You take the good, you take the bad, you take it all and there you have:

Good
» Getting to see my friends Darcy, Joe, Chad, Chris, Jay, and Rob again. Especially good seeing Joe and Chris, who I haven’t seen in ages.
» Seeing aforementioned friends all cleaned up and in suits and tuxes! Meow!
» Getting to demonstrate my HTML prowess at work
» This weekend: road trip to the casinos and Graceland, big pimpin’ style
» Popcorn my dad made on the stove, shoved into gallon ziploc bags, still fresh and tasty on Thursday
» First real paycheck in forever coming soon!
» Lee, the overnight security guard in my office building, who last night told me that she’s worked the night shift for 33 years. She did it so she could be home for her kids. She lost two husbands that way, but her kids turned out just fine.
» Cookie cake
» Totally digging the new job
» Found some good deals on DirecTV/TiVos for when I move out on my own
» Daiquiris on a deck on the beach, even if it is drizzling
» Audio Books for the commute to work
» Made the code mentioned below work! Hoo-wah!

Bad
» Cell phone only lets me talk for three minutes before dying
» Made last rent payment on The House (not so much bad as sad)
» Need to find place to live - stay in super cool neighborhood or move to (bleh) Irving?
» Loco’s - my favorite restaurant, that I visit every time I am home, really let me down this time
» The machine I’m testing my code on at work is about 50 feet down the hall, so every time I make one small change, I have to run to another department to check and see if it works. Most likely, it didn’t, so: rinse, repeat.

There are some pretty nice places in the Valley Ranch setion of Irving.

I lived in Valley Ranch my first year in Dallas. There are some nice places there, but most of them are out of the price range that I want to spend. If anything, I’m thinking between Hwy 114 and 183.

Have fun at the casinos on your road trip. Tell me again why you’re not coming to Colorado?

You should see about installing VNC on that machine.

Let us know what good DirecTV/DirecTiVo prices you’ve found (I may be buying one myself). And, what was the occasion for cookie cake?

Julie - A 6 hour drive is preferable to a 15 hour drive when one has already made a 15 hour drive the weekend before. That, and you smell.

    Matt - I would, but it isn’t a computer.

Alex - See DigitalSat.com and Rapid Satellite (which seems to be down at the moment. They are deals for new DirecTV subscribers.

I used to live at the Benchmark apartments in Irving. On Country Club Drive - just off Belt Line, halfway between 183 and 114. It was a pretty good area. The walls were a little thin, but everything else about the property was nice. I think there are several complexes in that same area you could check out. Another good place is the Jefferson at Hidden Ridge in Las Colinas. Some friends of mine lived there for several years.

So I was looking up my name on the internet and came across your site, Leia… you’re the only person I know (and I don’t even know you) with the same name as I. Except mine is pronounced LAY-ah. Unique names are great.
