Hipster Doofus

August 18th, 2003

Saturday night, after work, Mark and I went down to the xpo lounge for some adult beverages. I was surprised by how many hipsters were there. We were able to escape the coolness by sitting out back, where it was pleasant and somewhat quiet.

Gunnar Nelson, HipsterThat was until the party of drunken hipsters sat down next to us. They were out, having some bronsons, being all deck. Then came the trucker cap. No proper hipster clique is without one. This night’s token trucker cap was worn by a guy who could have been in the band Nelson.

Who in their right mind thinks trucker caps are cool? I just don’t get it. Andre’s got it right: “I want to hit people with trucker caps on the head with an aluminium bat.”

Ah well, making fun of the drunken hipsters did provide some hijinks for the night. If only we’d printed up some Hipster Bingo cards before going out. We would have been in for hours of entertainment.

I’m just jealous because my head can’t even fit in trucker caps.

is it worse to admit the first tape I bought was Nelson or that some months ago I downloaded the “after the rain” album out of nostalgic craving for my childhood. I don’t think I should admit to either.
. . . the problem with trucker caps is that the part of my family who are dairy farmers all wear trucker caps. Maybe I should tell them that they’re all trend setters now.

Yeah, I have family that are farmers too and they are extrememly awesome people who probably would not appreciate the fact that wanna-be hipsters are wearing their fashion staple.

Well I ain’t a hipster, though before it was trendy I drank PBR (cheap college student), smoked Pfunks and have had a ‘cabbie’ hat for quite a while. I enjoyed the funny post, people with trucker caps do need to be smacked around a bit; don’t know how that whole trend started. and the star tattoo thing too, what the hell is up with that? I go down to deep ellum and see ‘em all over the place. …plus I tend to be everyone’s ‘one republican friend’ so I know I don’t belong in that crowd.

Man am I glad to read that wasn’t you with the obnoxious group, Mike. When I read on your site that you were there, I almost thought I may have insulted you.
