Premature Acclimation

April 1st, 2004

I’ve jumped the gun on my wardrobe this year.

I get so excited about wearing flip-flops that I put them on as soon as the weather hits 60°. Once my toes are exposed, it’s hard for me to put socks and real shoes back on.

After the flipflops come skirts and short-sleeved shirts.

Pretty soon, I’m wearing summer clothes and I’m comfortable in them at 70°.

I realized today, with the temperatures near 80°, this isn’t a good plan. 90°plus days are just around the corner and I’m already wearing the lightest of my weekday clothes.

What I should be doing is wearing sweaters and staying as warm as I can so that when it is 98°, I can wear my flipflops and skirts and be as cool as a cucumber.

Unfortunately, my toes have already been allowed to breathe. I guess I will just email February 2005 Leia and tell her to keep the flipflops in the closet until May.

Here in Panama City, the weather gave us a real joke on April Fool’s Day! My co-workers and I had also started wearing our spring wardrobe, Then on the 1st of
April, the weather was down in the 40′s in the morning. So it was back to the sweaters, blazers, and pants.
Also, socks and regular shoes. I’m afraid the spring
breakers were disappointed this year with the cold spring. MOM

It won’t work. You would still broil in the summer. Might as well wear the sandals when you can enjoy them and feel the cool breeze through your toes.
