WTF?

September 23rd, 2004

Dear sarjaystu,

You know that post where you talked about your new car being the cause of beautiful weather [screenshot]? Those words are MINE.

Huggles,
Leia

P.S. Nice changing “kickass” to “great” and “Texas” to “North Carolina”, but missing the link to my site so I see it in the referrers. Way to go, brain trust!

Is ‘kickass’ to edgy for her?

  3. September 23rd, 2004 at 18:48 | #3

This is why I want my own personal internet ninja.

You have got to be kidding me. That’s just wholesale plagerism. Also lazy.

  5. September 23rd, 2004 at 19:55 | #5

So that is what people, who can’t think for themselves, do when they want to blog.

Way to go chica, calling out the losers! How sad to copy one’s blog :) She’s so original, I bet she shops at Hot Topic. That’s unique.

  12. September 24th, 2004 at 01:53 | #12

    that’s just funny.

  13. September 24th, 2004 at 09:03 | #13

Oh my god, ammo. 1. Speaking of losers, how sad is it to create 5 or 6 dead blogs solely for the sake of pointing out that someone used words that weren’t their own without quoting sources? What is this, History class? 2. Way to overreact, douchebags. 3. Oh, and get a life away from the monitor. It’s a big world out there, I’m sure you can go all road rage-y on somebody, or yell at the guy behind the counter for forgetting to take the pickles off your burger. You know, to keep up the overreacting theme. 4. Thank you, Internet police. 5. NO BLOOD FOR OIL! …………….. Wait……. misplaced anger, sorry. 6. Hopefully this’ll be the last time I’m at your site. I’ll never read it again. Wait…. I never read it in the first place, so no skin off my back.

Oh my god – It’s Erik Estrada!

    that’s even funnier.

you win. i lose, i suck, whatever…i honestly thought the green linked it. i’ll never read your site again. holy god.

  17. September 24th, 2004 at 11:58 | #17

sarjaystu: You copied whole blocks of text and didn’t attribute the source of the material. That’s plagiarism, pure and simple. It’s no different than a newspaper using an AP wire story without attribution, or a standup comic doing Lewis Black’s “If it weren’t for my horse, I wouldn’t have spent that year in college…” bit and calling it his own. The least you could do is apologize.

i’m not denying that it was copied, i tried to explain that i thought it was linked, therefore giving her the credit. i am sorry that i didn’t make sure the link was correct, but i did want to make it known that it was not intended to come across as my own thoughts. i am well aware that changing a few words does not in any way make her thoughts mine. i linked my site to the new site created to insult me so that people are aware of what i did.

  19. September 24th, 2004 at 15:01 | #19

You’re right – changing a few words does not make her thoughts yours. But changing a few words, rather than copying her words verbatim, and then improperly referencing her site certainly does make it look like you did appear the thoughts to be your own. If not, why change any words at all?

i changed words to make it fit me, but wanted to let people see where i got the original words from. thats all i’m trying to say. i undertand what you are saying Julie, and i understand how it looks. i thought what she had to say summed up what i was feeling and i thought it was funny. i didn’t mean to make it mine, that is why i linked her site. or atleast thought i did. i acknowledge my mistake, and did apologize for it. if people choose to hate me and be angry that is fine and understood. i did reference my error in my update and now all those who come to my site will know what i did. so once again, i am sorry. i should have checked the link and then made reference to the link, i don’t deny that. i was an idiot and i dont think there is anything else i can say.
