Holiday Playlist

December 7th, 2004

I’m in charge of the music for our party this weekend. And it will be ALL HOLIDAY MUSIC, ALL THE TIME. What should be in the rotation?

My holiday rotation generally includes oldies from the Rat Pack, the Brian Setzer Orchestra Xmas album, and “‘Tis the Season for Los Straightjackets”.
    Fun.

More Cowbell has a playlist and torrent posted of indie bands that cover traditional (and contemporary) x-mas music.

Remember when you put that Dolly Parton song on the CD that one year and it made me cry, alone in my dirty hovel of an apartment?
    Let’s not do that again.

I vote for music from “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. Especially ‘Skating’ and the instrumental ‘Christmas Time Is Here’.
(Very nostalgic. And we all sort of secretly get into it since we all listened to it growing up.)

Find yourself a copy of “James Brown’s Funky Christmas”. No Christmas party is complete without “Go Power At Christmas Time” and “Santa Claus Came to the Ghetto”.

My personal favorite is the Whoville Carol ‘Welcome Christmas’ from “The Grinch” cartoon. You can download it at http://www.wildermetaforce.com/mp3

try to find ‘Merry Christmas (War is over)’ since the stations didn’t play it last year, and I have yet to hear it this year.

Happy Xmas is my very, very favorite. And I’ve heard it once on the radio so far. I really wish they’d play it more. Oh, and I also adore “All I Want For Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey, but I’m a huge tool. Everyone’s got a guilty pleasure, right? I’ve heard the “Maybe This Christmas” compilations are good, but I haven’t heard them. And the “Now That’s What I Call Christmas” are pretty good, even if they are the Wal-Mart of compilations.

Alvin and the Chipmunks- Christmas song.

The “me I want a hula hoop” part always brings me into the season.” :)

    Other choices:

Baby It’s Cold Outside – Dean Martin

The Lonely Jew on Christmas – Kyle

Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas – Rowlf the dog

The Chanukah Song – Adam Sandler

I Saw Three Ships – Sting

O Holy Night – Tracy Chapman

If you want any of these, email me and I’ll send them to you.

Will these be organized and played from your iPod?

Nobody picked “The Little Drummer Boy” or “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. I’m disappointed. I thougth you all were crazier than that.
