30 hours until possession

September 15th, 2005

71 signatures at the title company, 1 signature at the bank, and 8 initials later, I’ve done my part in closing on the house. The seller should sign everything tomorrow afternoon. People will get their money. I will get the keys.

Saturday, we rip out the carpet.

Congratulations Leia: You are about to embark on a real learning experience. As your Uncle Jeff Rabkin has said: The reason the government tries to make it easy to buy a house is because after you become an owner you won’t have any time left over to think about overthrowing the government. I think you have made a good choice and your timing was close to perfect.

In the Navy, they say that a ship cannot set sail until the amount of paperwork signed equals or exceeds the weight of the heaviest sailor aboard.

Perhaps there is a corollary with homes and front doors…
