Slightly Over Budget
February 19th, 2007
Today, I was quoted $2000 for 2 hours of use of a chapel downtown for our wedding. That’s pretty much what I want to spend on the whole she-bang! The wedding industry is such a racket. Back to the drawing board.

A $2000 budget will be really difficult to meet. We got married in a small east texas town (nacogdoches) in a small historical chapel (was only a few hundred), and I think we were still at about $3k. We were very economical too – I designed and built our cake stands, had a local woman make the cakes, had a very simple reception without a full meal, etc. It all just adds up really fast.
$2000 for a couple of hours?? What a rip-off.
what about the botanical gardens, if you’re thinking May? I had a friend get married there, and I know they didn’t spend much on the wedding…
Know any seminary students or ministers? Backyards are cheap and potentially don’t need much decoration. . .
Oy, I feel your pain. I’ve been in three weddings and they have been *expensive*! (One was $42,000!) $2,000 will be HARD to do unless you really DIY things like cake, booze, food, location, etc.
The cheapest wedding I was a part of was at a family member’s house. I made the cake. The food was from Central Market. Booze was from Sam’s. There were about 100 people and it was around $4,000. (Drinking and eating are expensive!)
I’m happy for you, btw! Congrats!
